Jane's Baptism
January 12, 2013
What a special day. I made a conscious effort to not sweat the little things this go around. When Ellie was baptized two years ago, I am sad to say that I let the unimportant details of the day stress me out a little. By the time I arrived to Ellie's baptism, I was frustrated and bothered because the morning preparations for the "after baptism get together" had not gone as smoothly as I had hoped. Of course it was a fabulous day, nonetheless, but I can't help feeling that I let myself get too wrapped up in things that just didn't matter.
So, this time around, I was totally laid back and low key and I just soaked up all the sweetness of the day. It was a really great day. Here is what I want to remember:
* Jane was soooo excited to get baptized. Because we had stake conference the first weekend in January, she had to wait an extra week. This just about killed her. Many times throughout the week before her baptism she would sigh and say, "I could have been baptized by now."
* Jane was so attentive during the talks that were given at her baptism. I just kept looking down at her and she would be staring intently at whomever was speaking. It was like she had grown up overnight and was trying to soak in all the information.
* For the rest of that day, it was obvious that Jane was trying extra hard to be extra good. She was super kind to her siblings and went above and beyond to be helpful. She has always been and continues to be a great girl, but she was trying especially hard that day.
* Jane loved every minute of the day. She felt special and different- in a good way. She has mentioned many times since that she wishes she could have her baptism day again. I think she is sad that it is a once in a forever lifetime event.
* We were supported by so many people who love Jane and wanted to be there for her baptism. From primary teachers, to neighbors, to friends and family, we were surrounded by a multitude of amazing people who have all made an impact on Jane.
We love our Jane.
She is spunky and opinionated and sweet and thoughtful
and smart and goofy and too many things to put into words.
We are proud of who she is and can't wait
to see the young woman she is becoming.
Let's just say it wasn't the best picture day.
